TranzX PST Gryphon e-bike wins iF Product Design Award 2012

With unique conceptual framework and technical world firsts, JD's new e-bike MTB model wins renowned iF Product Design Award 2012 during iF Award ceremony
Bad Nauheim, November 2, 2011 – The JD Group, a major manufacturer of bicycle components and leading developer of electric technology for electric bicycles, receives the iF Product Design Award 2012 for its in-house designed Gryphon e-bike model, equipped with TranzX PST’s latest central drive technology.
After receiving considerable interest during the Bike EXPO and Eurobike 2011 trade fairs, the new "Gryphon" MTB e-bike was a strong contender in the 2012 international iF award competition. The judges of the prestigious iF award evaluated the sports-orientated e-bike in category 2 “Leisure & Lifestyle” in regards to its extraordinary design and technological advancements.
The Gryphon features a unique MTB frame concept as well as the latest central drive system that utilizes several world-first technologies. TranzX PST offers the world's first central motor, which can accommodate up to three chain rings, enabling sporty e-bikes to be equipped with up to 30 gear ratios. As single-chain version, the central motor can also be combined with a coaster brake and a hub gear. For optimal and low-abrasive power transmission with up to 70Nm, JD presents the world’s first motor-shifting-modulator. This modulator controls and manages motor power and shifting processes to avoid overstraining the chain. In combination with the central battery solution, integrated around the seat tube and permitting a practical side-unfold and take out, the Gryphon exhibits a perfect e-bike balance, giving the e-bike a sporty character even for hilly terrain.
As an award winner, the Gryphon will be displayed internationally at the iF Design Exhibitions in Hannover (parallel to the Cebit), and Haikou/Hainan Island as a state-of-the-art innovation. In Europe, the Gryphon with TranzX PST drive system will be available in the spring of 2012 from several OEM clients.
