the National Palace Museum and Silks Palace Restaurant Offer Travelers a New Dining Experience with Extended Opening Hours and Exclusive Dining and Room Packages

As of July 1st, the National Palace Museum in Taiwan will extend its opening hours, and the exhibits will now remain available for viewing from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm (originally 9:00 am to 5:00 pm). And in order to welcome guests who would like to experience ancient Chinese masterpieces in a culinary way, the Silks Palace Restaurant next to the museum presents a dinner special Mondays to Fridays, where groups of four can receive the “Treasure Chest Dessert Collection” for free (a NT$480 value) by dining at the first floor restaurant and showing tickets for visiting the National Palace Museum that day. Guests are also welcome to stay at the Grand Formosa Regent Taipei, with the “National Palace Culture Fest” package where you can have a two day-one night stay anytime before the end of December, and receive an upgrade to a Wellspring suite—furthermore, enjoy a free breakfast for two, two tickets to the National Palace Museum, dinner at Silks Palace for two, and shuttle services between the hotel and the museum. This comprehensive package is available to you for just NT$6200 per room.

Silks Palace Director Mandy Yang expresses thoughts behind the extended opening time: “The National Palace Museum’s prolonged opening time is a considerate move for international travelers and businessmen as free travelers can choose to visit the exhibits after 4:00 pm, and businessmen can unwind from their busy day by admiring the pieces after 5:00 pm. Furthermore, afternoon visits to the museum may be more relaxing, as tour groups may crowd the galleries at earlier times, and after an easy, comforting perusal of the artworks, visitors can directly head over to the Silks Palace for a delicious dinner, and even simultaneously avoid the after-work rush hour.”

Ever since Silks Palace opened on June 25th, 2008, the restaurant has attracted global attention under the steady guidance of Taiwan’s Formosa International Hotel Corp., and in August of its opening year, Silks Palace received accolades of the highest caliber by nationally acclaimed Newsweek magazine, whose article declared that the restaurant’s excellent food and unique architecture confidently “gives a whole new meaning to the concept of a museum restaurant.” Inspired by the world’s finest collections of traditional Chinese masterpieces, Silks Palace models its dishes after the museum’s many artworks and signature pieces include renditions of the famous sculptures “Jadeite Cabbage with Insects” and “Meat-Shaped Stone,” and even artistic interpretations of classic entrées like the Fujian “Buddha Jumps Over the Wall” stew, which comes housed in a white bowl reminiscent of classic three-legged "ding" cauldrons from the Warring States period (about 475–221 B.C.). Silks Palace’s dishes are worthy of comparison with the actual masterpieces, and it is no wonder that every year, up to tens of thousands of Imperial Treasure Feasts are provided for visitors from all over the world. The restaurant has become extremely popular among travelers, and it is only another destination that visitors find hard to leave behind.

Prior to July 1st, the National Palace Museum closed its doors at 5:00 pm, and many guests could only enjoy lunch at the Silks Palace Restaurant. Now, with the museum extending its opening hours until 6:30 pm, all visitors can fully enjoy their tour of the national artifacts and experience the divine connection between Chinese artwork and Chinese cooking at Silks Palace. Because of the new opening times, Silks Palace expects a great influx of dining patrons in the evening, as travelers journey to Silks Palace for a taste of Chinese culture and experience the treasures of the island.

The “National Palace Culture Fest” package is only limited to guests with a Taiwan National Identification Card or an Alien Resident Certificate. There is a limit of five rooms per day, so please make reservations at least two days before your intended stay. All prices stated above are subject to an additional service fee. For reservations, please call Grand Formosa Regent Taipei at (02) 2523-8000.
