出生嘉義布袋的蕭媺(音同美)，1987年至1995年，隻身前往巴西、瑞士、西班牙等地展開遠遊的夢想，在行旅異國多年後，蕭媺選擇定居於台灣埔里，以大自然的豐厚基底為創作養分，透過油彩與畫筆一點一滴的重新連結自己與土地間相互依存的種種，讓童年回憶裡的民俗風情及神話傳說躍上畫布，但其企圖脫離傳統束縛、釋放潛在能量的想像，將動植物形象、民俗風情、廟會等的民間圖騰，以如夢境似的飄遊在畫布上漫走。
蕭媺於北美館98年度眾多申請展中脫穎而出，為五位入選者第一個的展出作品。本展集結了自2003 - 2009年的共30餘件油畫創作，以「神話采風」、「印度行旅」、「冥想靜心」及「動物狂想」四個系列呈現，引領觀眾走進蕭媺飄遊的世界。
北美館將於 5月13日(三) 下午2點於展場舉辦記者會，由謝小韞館長與藝術家蕭媺共同為媒體介紹其創作理念與進行交流分享，敬邀媒體到場參與。

Hsiao Mei was born in Jiayi. From 1987 to 1995, she was traveling among Brazil , Switzerland and Spain , a journey that was the fulfillment of a life - long dream. After a decade’s traveler life, Hsiao Mei decided to settle down in a Taiwan ’s mountainous town Puli. The richness of the nature becomes her creation base, and stories between her and the land are re - jointed gradually by paints and brushes. Her attempt to break away traditional fetters and release her energy of imagination transforms the figures of animals and plants, folk customs and totems in her work, as if they are wandering on the canvas in the realm of dream.
Hisao Mei was one of the five selected candidates from many 2009 TFAM’s applications for exhibits. This exhibition collects more than 30 oil paintings from 2003 to 2009.
