JD Group announces latest TranzX PST upgrades and new advancements

Taipei, March 19, 2009 – The JD Group, manufacturer of mobility products and bike components, announced at the Taipei Cycle Show diverse upgrades and enhancements to its flagship TranzX Power Support Technology line of pedal-activated drive systems for electric bicycles.

A large selection of valuable new features and innovations reaffirm TranzX PST’s cutting edge technology and leading market position. By extending the system’s versatility and adaptability, JD Group aims to deliver a bespoke E-Bike solution for OEMs. The new developments include:

• A more sophisticated looking and innovative command control con¬sole and display screen integrated into the handlebar.

• New 250 Watt hub motors for disk brakes (front or rear) and for front roller brakes.

• A new more powerful 350 Watt hub motor with integrated controller.

• New advanced Lithium polymer battery technology.

• A smaller battery pack and controller that are 70 mm shorter.

• A smaller newly designed rear rack featuring thinner gauge 6061-T6 aluminium alloy tubing.

• A new brake lever with motor cut-off protection that conforms with the new EN 15194 standard for EPACs.

• A new smaller and quieter battery charger.

The new enhancements make TranzX PST a compelling choice for bicycle manufacturers looking for a flexible product family that can be customized to their specific requirements.

New command control console integrates with handlebar

The next generation command control console combines revolutionary de¬sign with application functionality. A concavely shaped housing with a cen¬trally positioned display screen and left-hand control panel mounts onto the handlebar giving the pedelec a more sophisticated look.

A wide LCD display screen with large digits makes for easy viewing of the real-time performance data (current speed, distance traveled and battery level). The control panel is located on the left handlebar and within easy reach of the rider’s thumb. Ergonomic buttons make it simple to switch between three different power support modes (economy, cruising and climbing) and a brand new turbo mode, labeled S for sport, delivers an extra torque boost for maximum support and fun.

The control console is equipped with Dynamic Diagnostic System (DDS) which identifies possible system malfunctions allowing the dealer to fix most problems.

New smaller carrier holds battery and controller

The CA04 rear carrier employs smaller gauge tubing adding to the strikingly shorter and lighter looking design. The new carrier is available either with luggage straps or with a newly developed spring clamp. The carrier can be mounted on bikes with 26-inch or 28-inch wheels and is available with a choice of black or silver finish.

The CA04 carrier is available for the TranzX PST Torque Sensor system and is 35mm shorter than its predecessor. Also shorter are the battery and the controller which are integrated into the carrier making it considerably smaller.

New Lithium polymer power pack

To increase battery life without increasing the size and weight of the battery pack, JD engineers used lithium polymer technology. This type of battery can be shaped to fit inside smaller enclosures which enabled JD to create a shorter (42mm) battery while also maximizing battery capacity.

A battery management system controls the temperature, voltage, prevents overcharge and over discharge to protect the new BL03 battery. Lithium polymer batteries are more robust, safer, have no memory effect and are longer lasting. The result: A more environmentally friendly battery pack.

Battery Charger

Along with the new battery comes a smaller and lighter, quiet running battery charger. Safety measures prevent battery overheating and overcharging. The JD CH02 charger is CE and UL listed (marked) and very easy to use.

Smaller Controller

The new CN03 controller is 28mm shorter and features a new printed circuit board (PCB) for greater precision. It comes with an easy plug system and is available with EU, UK, S, US, JP connectors. (Connectors for other countries are also available.)

Electric Motors

The new 250 Watt hub motors are available for V-brakes (front or rear), for disk brakes (front or rear) and for front roller brakes. All of the motors are very reliable, generate high torque at low speeds and are highly efficient. The noise level has been reduced to less than 69 dB.

The 250 Watt geared brushless motors are available in 24 Volt or 36 Volt versions and designed to optimally power bicycles with 26 and 28-inch wheels. The motors comply with EN regulations for EPACs and deliver maximum support of up to 25km/h.

New 350 Watt Motor makes its premiere at Taipei Cycle Show

A newly developed, proprietary 36V 350 Watt geared brushless motor is be¬ing introduced for the US market and for use with throttle-controlled E-bikes in diverse markets including Japan and Europe. The motor features an inte¬grated controller and can be used with 26 and 28-inch wheels as well as with a front roller brake. The high-performance motor delivers maximum support of up to 35 km/h.

Brake Lever

The cut-off protection BL01 brake lever has been added to conform with new European Norm 15194 for EPACs. The lever is designed to stop motor sup¬port immediately and looks like a standard aluminium brake lever. It is avail¬able for both left and right hand use.

New upgrades and developments keep OEMs ahead

With the new product developments, JD Group further broadens its product line for the pedelec and e-bike market with components that deliver more choices and flexibility to OEMs wishing to stay ahead of the technology curve.

TranzX PST meets all international safety standards and legal requirements for electric bicycles including the new EN 15194 European safety standard for EPACs (Electrically Power Assisted Cycles) and EMC (Electro Magnetic Compatibility) requirements.
