TranzX and TÜV Rheinland join forces for greater e-bike safety Launching their new cooperation to promote technical safety in e-bikes at this year’s Eurobike in Friedrichshafen, TÜV Rheinland and TranzX officially present their joint goals and initial agenda to the trade Cologne/Bad Nauheim, August 24, 2012 - E-bike safety as a common goal: this position unites the TranzX PST brand of the JD Group, a leading global manufacturer of electronic drive systems, and TÜV Rheinland, one of the world's most renowned independent testing services. Both companies will use their competent technical and safety platforms to form a marketing alliance, beginning at Eurobike, to raise general levels of awareness and knowledge regarding e-bike safety, particularly in the bicycle industry. With the growing number of e-bikes and pedelecs on today’s roads, safety and quality gain proportionately in importance. Both TÜV and TranzX want to increase awareness of e-bike safety, and sensitize dealers particularly to its importance, promoting best practices and avoiding potential hazards in the use of e-bike batteries. Moreover, it is worth emphasizing the definite correlation between the quality of e-bikes and their components to the automatic compliance to prevailing safety regulations. "Electric mobility, especially on two wheels, is a real transportation alternative evolving right now. This is reflected in the rapid development of the market. But, despite all the euphoria of the manufacturers, dealers and consumers, safety can be allowed to take a back seat. Together with TranzX, we will address exactly this issue and raise awareness in all of these groups," explains Prof. Dr. h.c. Ralf Wilde, Executive Vice President of Products at TÜV Rheinland. Most electric-powered bicycles are equipped with lithium-ion batteries. This can prove to be dangerous if they were not produced according to strict safety guidelines and procedures. In the first step of this new partnership, dealers will be made aware of the latest regulations and safety requirements, and supported in recognizing safety hazards when dealing with e-bike batteries. "With this campaign we want to raise awareness of the growing quality issues on the e-bike market," says Johnson Cho, CEO of JD Group. "As a manufacturer that puts a priority on quality and safety, we are happy to have found such a strong and enthusiastic partner in the TÜV Rheinland organization, and look forward to our successful collaboration." Initial plans are to implement various joint activities and events, including dealer seminars and presentations and demonstrations at trade shows. At this year's Eurobike, the collaboration of TranzX and TÜV Rheinland will kick-off with two workshops for dealers, bicycle manufacturers and visitors at the TranzX stand (Hall 5, Stand 503). Main program topics will be the quality and safety of today’s pedelecs and the benefits of certification through the Battery Safety Organization (BATSO) to increase battery safety. As a worldwide independent laboratory testing service, with battery testing centers in China, Germany and Japan, TÜV Rheinland offers this certification and also helps manufacturers to produce safe and quality oriented products. The common goal is to make an important contribution to consumer protection and to increase the security requirements for this young product category. Those interested will be able to direct their questions personally to experts from TÜV Rheinland and TranzX. This opportunity is also being offered to visitors at the TranzX e-bike test track, in the Outdoor Area East, 117/1. Dates during the Eurobike 2012: Wednesday, 29 August 2012: 16.30 - 17.30 – “Q & A” session at the TranzX stand (Hall 5 - Booth 503) Thursday, 30 August 2012: 11.00 - 12.00 – “Q & A” session at the TranzX stand (Hall 5 - Booth 503) JD Group, a manufacturer of sustainable mobility products, is dedicated to the continual increase in quality of the TranzX PST products to reflect the current technical development of the market. With regard to the issue of safety, JD is one of the first manufacturers of an e-bike drive system recognizing the need for adequate security requirements for e-bike batteries. In addition to the fulfillment of the UN requirements, JD’s batteries have been tested according to various rigorous procedures since the year 2011, according to the BATSO 01:2011-03 standards and certified by TÜV Rheinland. The BATSO label on the TranzX PST lithium batteries signals consumers, distributors and service personnel that the battery, as well as the operating and installation manuals, have been reviewed by an authorized laboratory and the production process monitored. The labelling of the TranzX PST lithium batteries with a BATSO seal signals retailers and consumers alike that the lithium batteries made by JD adhere to highest quality and safety standards.
