technology for standard bicycles at Taipei

Taipei, March 8, 2012 – The JD Group, a major manufacturer of bicycle

components and leading developer of electric technology for electric bicycles,

presented its award-winning automatic-shift bicycle gearing system for

traditional (non-electric) bicycles at the Taipei Cycle Show in Taipei, Taiwan.

Automatic Gear Transmission Bike+ (AGT Bike+) technology is a handlebarmounted,

computerized unit that determines when the rider needs to shift and

automatically shifts the bicycle into the proper gear. The system features a

maintenance free self-charging Lithium battery that attains ranges of up to 500

km.

With new AGT Bike+, JD extends its popular and gold award-winning TranzX

PST AGT E-Bike technology to conventional bicycles. The system utilizes a

combination of different intuitive sensors – cadence, wheel and tilt – to monitor

the road speed of the bike and calculate when it's time to shift to keep a rider's

cadence steady. Casual cyclists, who want to enjoy a simpler ride without

having to worry about shifting into a lower gear in time for a steep hill or higher

gear when going downhill, are the primary target group for the new system.

The easy to operate 7-speed internal gear system lets riders choose between

a fully automatic and a semi-automatic mode. Riders can furthermore synchronize

their preferred cadence by adjusting the gear-shifting rate to one of nine

different settings. The system's computer remembers the rider's preferred rate

and starts there the next time they get on the bicycle. A lithium battery located

in the seat tube delivers a range of up to 500 km and never needs charging. A

hub dynamo automatically recharges the battery while a light sensor built into

the unit checks daylight conditions and activates the bicycle’s headlight as

needed.

The new AGT Bike+ technology will be made available to OEM customers in

June and is due to go into production this fall ensuring that manufacturer’s

products reach retailers in time for the 2013 season.

AGT Bike+ is on display at the TranzX PST booth in the NanGang Exhibition

Hall, Booth JO408.
