Erik has developed the concept of Hybrid bicycle-train Oriented Development (HOD) during his studies, based on the urban planning characteristics of the bike-train system. HOD is the Dutch version of TOD, in which the scope of the bicycle determines development opportunities. Fast cycling routes connect residential, work and shopping areas in the different towns and cities. They are fast, direct, comfortable and safe routes over a longer distance. Cyclists are given as much priority as possible. By realizing fast cycling routes, the province of Gelderland and the local Municipalities want to encourage commuters to cycle more frequently.
