Today (May 10, 2017), President Tsai Ing-wen congratulated the Korean people and President Moon on behalf of the government and people of the Republic of China. President Tsai highlighted the universal values of freedom and democracy that Taiwan and Korea share as democratic countries. She also noted our fast-growing economic, trade, cultural and other interactions, and the flourishing ties between our societies. President Tsai fully expects President Moon's leadership to bring about greater welfare for the Korean people. She also anticipates that based on today's firm foundation, our two countries will continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation, assist each other for mutual benefits, and jointly contribute to the peace, stability, and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region.
